Decoupage Scrapbook Covers by Angie J. Rose

The following article is a sample from “101 Christmas Scrapbooking Ideas” a book featuring 101 layout ideas, patterns, templates, clip art and much more. Reprinted with permission.

Materials Needed:

  • Scrapbook or 3 ring binder
  • your favorite cut images from wrapping paper, doilies, decorative paper napkins, magazines etc.
  • Decoupage glue (or use regular white glue and dilute it one part water two parts glue).
  • Washable paintbrush or sponge brush (this should be dedicated to glue use only).

There are four basic steps to the decoupage scrapbooks.

1- Choose a theme

Here we are discussing a Christmas theme. So the colors, wrapping paper, clip art, decorative napkins or magazine images to cut should compliment the theme.2- Cut or tear desired images

Cut more than you will need, you can always store the extra in a box for another project. However, if you are already gluing things on and you are missing images it is much more work to drop that and go hunting for images.

3- Glue them on

This is the most important step. Make sure your scrapbook cover or binder is clean and dry before you glue anything on it.

Work with the cover open and facing you. Apply decoupage medium on the images and not the cover. Then place each image where you would like it to be. This way you can layer them or keep some of the cover uncovered if you like.

4- Let dry and apply one more glue layer

Once the cover is done let it dry one - two days. Then if you like do the inside cover.

Once dry apply an even overall layer to the whole binder/scrapbook cover and let dry again.

Your decoupage scrapbook is ready to fill with your favorite pictures of the Holidays.
