Romantic Decorating Ideas

Romantic decorating is about setting a mood, rather than specific furniture or accessories. What is a romantic mood? There are four main areas that convey romance:

1. Lighting When you think of romance you think of subtle lighting and of course candlelight. Nothing quite says romance better than beautiful candles. You can go for one single long tapered candle or a dozen thick candles. The key is matching function and beauty. Candles should be used as a supplement to muted lighting.

2. Scent What is really romantic is a lovely fragrance that permeates the room gently. You can combine the lighting with scent in using the wonderful new scented candles available. If you are not keen on using candles for scent, there are potpourri simmering pots which also work nicely. Available on the market are the plug in fragrance defusers, but I would like make sure I try some before any special event, some tend to smell like cheap perfume.

3.Comfort Add comfort to your surroundings. The best and easiest way to do so is to purchase throw pillows. These compliment your usual furniture with comfort, color and are available in almost any size and color. You also add an area rug to wood floors to create a cosy spot.

4. Music Music really sets the tone for romance. Classical is always a favorite, but as long as the music selection has a melodic and slow tempo it will be more relaxing and enjoyable. If you are unsure about this area, most local music store personnel will be willing to help to select something romantic. Sometimes, a favorite song is romantic just because of the memories it brings to mind.
