Making New Candles from the Old
If you are like me, you have at least a dozen fragrant candles in
glass jars
around the house whose wick has run out. Oh, there's lots of wax all
around,
but no wick.
Well, here's a great tip that really works! Melt the wax slowly in
its own container
in a double boiler style i.e. place the wax container in the pot and
bring the water to
boil slowly. C A U T I O N never put hot glass on cold or wet surfaces,
they can shatter!
When the wax is melted, remove the old metal wick holder and pass
new doubled up
size 10 crochet thread through it to the desired length. Remove your
container of
melted wax and place it on a safe dry surface. Then slowly place the
newly threaded
candle wick in the middle of your candle. Leave a couple of extra
inches of wick
and wrap the extra wick thread around a pencil so it stays centered.
Allow to cool and V O I L A ! you have a new fragrant candle.
